Valentines Day...

The phone rang yesterday, feb 13, and in an instance I knew it was my husband calling. He was apologetic; he had been busy the past few days and had not been able to spend any time with me. My birthday came and went by, and it was time to celebrate Valentines day. He said, "Hanu, you know I love you. You know I can do anything in this world for you. Don't you?" I replied, "Yes hanu, I know you love me more than Jesus does. But why do you ask?" My husband, in a low tone, then asked me if we really had to celebrate Valentines day? "I love you with all my heart every second of the day. I don't need a day to make you feel the love I have for you," he remarked. It was true. Everyday is special for me, because its everyday my husband makes me realize how much he cares for me. In other words, I celebrate Valentines day everyday so why do I need 14th of Feb? I don't. The beautiful essence and value of Valentines day has been lost, rather snatched away, by commercializing it ruthlessly. Its not how much you are loved anymore, its about what your boyfriend/fiancee/husband can give you as a gift on the day when everything is overpriced. Mind you, I am not writing this blog to bring about any drastic change to this day. This is how I feel about any special "day."
